When the facade material is not what was specified

Checking the outside of the house against your selections, not just its finish.

Beveridge 3753 · 14 July 2026

In short: A Beveridge facade had polystyrene foam where Hebel panel was specified. Selections matter at handover as much as workmanship.

What we found

Polystyrene foam used on the front of a Beveridge house where Hebel was on the plans, recorded as a major item.

Why it matters

Different materials behave differently for impact, fire and longevity. You contracted for one and paid for one.

Brickwork

Voids and holes in mortar joints and an open gap between the top course and the fascia were also recorded on Beveridge handovers.

Render and joints

Render applied over control joints that should have a flexible sealant, so cracks will appear along them.

What to bring

Your signed selections and plans. We compare the facade against them on the day.

FAQ

Questions Beveridge owners ask about this

Can I insist on the specified material?

Your contract sets what was agreed. Raise it with the builder in writing with the report attached.

Is a different material always worse?

Not always, but any change should be agreed and documented.

Do you check render thickness?

Visually only. We do not cut into render.

Are mortar voids serious?

They let water into the wall cavity and should be filled.
