Why it matters here

Frame inspections on Beveridge builds

The heaviest Beveridge frame findings have been about load paths: trusses sitting on an internal wall never designed to carry them, garage beam tie-downs left out, and a bracing wall with its bottom plate cut. Waste points cast in the wrong place have also shown up here, when the plumbing first meets the walls.

What we find at this stage in Beveridge

  • Trusses bearing on a non-load-bearing wall
  • Garage beam tie-downs missing from the engineering detail
  • Strap bracing installed slack
  • Bottom plate cut in a bracing wall
  • Waste points in the wrong position
  • Slab out of level beyond the tolerance

FAQ

Frame inspections in Beveridge: common questions

Why is a truss on the wrong wall a big deal?

Walls are designed as load-bearing or not. A non-load-bearing wall picking up roof load can deflect, crack the plaster and push load where the design never sent it.

How do you check tie-downs?

Against the engineering detail. It shows which connections are needed at each beam and wall, and we look for each one.

What does slack strap bracing do?

Very little. Strap bracing only works in tension, so it has to be tensioned with a proper tool when it is fixed.

Can a waste point be moved after the slab?

Yes, but it means cutting concrete. Finding it at frame stops the wall being built around the wrong spot.

Do you certify the trusses?

No. Truss design certification sits with the fabricator. We check bearing, fixing and bracing on site.

Which standards apply?

AS 1684 for timber framing, AS 4055 for wind loads, and the engineering issued for your lot.
